We’ve said goodbye to 2009 and as we take our first steps into the new year, it’s a good time to reflect back on what’s we’re going to miss about the year gone and what we’re excited about for 2010.
Interested in Seren or not sure what we’re all about? This article should help give you a little more insight into who we are and what makes us tick, smile or want to stay in bed.
The final year in the first decade of the new millennium. The last year of the noughties. 10 years since we were all wondering what the Y2K bug was, and what the year 2000 would bring. Saying goodbye to 2009 has more significance than numbers ticking over on the clock, so looking back – what did we love about this year?
• Music Sharing – Songbird, Spotify, Songkick…. Not having our lives ruled by iTunes. Woxy Radio. Playlist sharing. Playlist stealing!
• The rise of unexpected stars… come on, even the most cynical of us couldn’t deny the Susan Boyle factor.
• A growing recognition by our clients on the benefits of research led design, and getting the customer involved right from the start of the lifecycle. It’s good to see what we’ve been shouting about really starting to take hold!
• Our Seren Learning Lunches. We played, we listened, we tied ourselves up in knots… Friday lunchtimes at Seren are not just about eating, but everyone having the opportunity to share, play and get involved.
• Our celebrity office. Ever the superstar, our office here in Shoreditch has made numerous film and print appearances. From horror films to Bollywood, she has been a wanted woman in 2009… and currently being chatted up for a starring role by a very chocolatey client.
• Going back to basics. Baking, recycling, cycling, holidays in the UK. DIY. Staying in becoming the new place to be. The flip side of this is what we won’t miss about 2009, and what we have quite happily waved goodbye to already.
• Free London evening newspapers. Rubbish in more ways than one.
• The credit crunch. The recession. Over it!
• Banker bonuses, the housing bubble…. General doom and gloom.
• Airline strikes just when we want to go on holiday.
• Having to use uninspired phrases like “the noughties”

• The year of extreme creativity. Of conceiving it, living it and doing it.
• Functional Branding… the next step forward for Seren. Taking our clients on the journey of keeping the customer central to all aspects of their brand, products and services.
• Knowledge sharing and collaboration – as we become more remote, how do we stay closer together? Google wave… we watch you with interest.
• Obama and Brown. Sustaining the political left wing environment.
• Getting better at going back to basics. More train travel, more cycling, becoming DIY gurus, mastering that carrot cake recipe, growing our own vegetables.
• Being amazing, elegant, strong and bright!
